for Family and Groups

Skipper and Crew course: Are you certified to Bareboat Charter? Or do you want to be? Do you have a crew that may or may not want to be certified? This is the course for you.

The course will certify the Skipper who is expected to meet all National and International standards of the American Sailing Association for Bareboat Skippers.

The course teaches the crew how to support the Skipper. Course content will vary by age, experience, and interest.

The course will focus on coaching the Skipper to develop the team and Crew.  ASA standards provide the core of this instruction. Prerequisites are ASA 101 Basic Keelboat or the Skipper may challenge the requirements with a written test and on-the-water checkout ride.  Group composition - four maximum please.

The skipper will brief the crew (with a little help from the school).  Accommodations are comfortable aboard a 34' -36' yacht. The group arrives the preceding evening and sleeps aboard in the harbor on Leech Lake. You and your group provide the provisions with input from the Captain.

Course includes: boat systems and battery(s), electrical panel and engine, getting underway and maneuvering in crowded marinas, prop walk, setting sail, sail trim, reefing, heaving to, heavy weather sailing, crew overboard drill, emergency procedures, navigation and charts, anchoring overnight, rules of the road, sound signals, buoys, safety systems, docking, cruising tips, written test.

Maximum is two skippers plus two crew members. The Skippers receive the Basic cruising (103 standard) and Bareboat charter (104 standard). All crew members will receive valuable training and a “Competent Crew Certificate"!

Skippers provide the provisions for all.
Course Cost is based on the number of Skippers:
One Skipper:    $1879
Two Skippers:  $1979

Four Day Option

Course includes: boat systems and battery(s), electrical panel and engine, getting underway and maneuvering in crowded marinas, prop walk, setting sail, sail Trim, reefing, heaving to, heavy weather sailing, crew overboard drill, emergency procedures, navigation and charts, anchoring overnight, rules of the road, sound signals, buoys, safety systems, docking, cruising tips, written test.

Maximum is four skippers. Successful completion of this course empowers you with the knowledge and confidence to safely and comfortably Bareboat Skipper on larger bodies of water.

Total cost is based on the number of Bareboat Skippers being nationally certified by the American Sailing Association. Each skipper or group of skippers provides provisions for the whole group (Don’t forget the Captain!)

Each Skipper receives the Basic Cruising (103 standard) and Bareboat Charter (104 standard)
